It is the time of year when the Sun is at the greatest distance from the celestial equator. This occurs December 21-22. The astrological sign of Capricorn heralds in the Winter Equinox. Capricorn represents the themes of Power , Executive, This is the shortest day of the year and the longest night.
Winter is not the time of Death exclusively as most people think. It is a time of dormant power and the development and release of psychic and spiritual power. Family and unity take precedence as the survival of the spirit is most important. Those who prosper during Winter allow for natural sunlight to enter their lives through music, song, dance , the Arts, communal activity, and fine craftsmanship.
It is a time of festivals as well. The Yule log symbolizes health and vitality. Life is rampant in all seasons and the season of Winter should not be referred to as the wicked time but a time for evolution and enlightenment.
